What does a City System do?
Depending upon the type of activated carbon used, a City System removes chlorine, chloramine, taste, odor, some organics, and/or color from your drinking water.To protect everyone on the water system, chlorine or chloramine is added to water by the company or municipality that provides your water. Taste, odor, organics, and/or color can be naturally occurring, or the result of improper industrial chemical usage and/or disposal. These problems can come from either underground or surface water sources, whether it is your personal well, community well, public water utility well, or a private water utility well. A City System generates water with just-bottled quality throughout your home and at every tap.
How does a City System work?
A City System uses a proprietary blend of proven technologies incorporating food grade, catalytically activated carbon and catalytic sanitizing media. The City System uses the same carbon filtration technology used in virtually all beverage bottling plants as the accepted method to remove taste and odors from the water used in the production of bottled water, fruit juices, soda, sports drinks, beer, etc. In addition, the catalytic sanitizing media inhibits the growth of bacteria entering your home.

The activation makes the carbon incredibly porous. Chlorine, chloramine, taste, odor, organics, and color are adsorbed into the pores of the activated carbon. Since the carbon acts as a very fine filter, after a period of time, the unit will backwash to remove any suspended materials from the bed. The catalytic sanitizing media inhibits the growth of bacteria in the system.
How do I know if I need a City System?
Virtually any water supply will benefit from a City System. You will notice a dramatic improvement in taste and water clarity throughout your home. Unlike tests for chlorine, chloramine, and color, there are no definitive tests for taste and odor. Your senses will determine whether you want a treatment system to remove the taste and odor in your drinking water. There are tests for organics, but the tests can be extremely expensive.
Any special things I should know about a Homestead System City System?
Every 2-3 years, your Homestead System dealer will need to change the activated carbon in your system.
